That was happened in 2011. Apple’s vice president Eddy cue revealed that when Apple would launch the new IOS 9 for its devices, Match will be expanded and will support more than 100,000 songs. The revelation took place, in response to many queries and questions about how Apple’s upcoming music streaming service will be combined with ITunes match limit.

The service launched with the song limit of 2,000 songs but when iOS 9 came out it also became capable of supporting 100,000 songs. Apple’s website explained and threw light on this subject, like people will get the facility of having any song they own, matched and stored on the iTunes of Apple. It’s very convenient, as a user would be able to access the song from wherever he/she wants.

Apple’s announcement and the step it took by increasing the capacity could be very well seen as an answer to the Google Play Music.
